OBEDIENCE, the choice to see God’s glory

Tom had won a toy at a raffle. He called his 5 kids together to askwhich one should have the present. "Who is the most obedient?" he asked. The children all stared back at him in silence. Then he asked, "Who never talks back to mother?" Again the kids appeared to be mystified by the question. Then Tom asked, "Who does everything she says?" With that question, the kids were finally able to come to a conclusion. The five small voices answered in unison, "Okay, dad, you get the toy."

When God wants to display his glory, he calls for a step of obedience. This call to a step will be abundantly clear, seemingly ridiculous at times, & emotionally difficult.

Perhaps God is asking you to do something that is emotionally difficult. Forgive someone who has hurt you. Love someone who seems unlovable. Be honest and transparent with your mate/children/parents. Confess a wrong. Endure something that is hard (stay put when you want to run). Walk away from a sin you love.

What is it that God is giving you a clear command about today? What is He asking you to obey? Obedience is a choice made possible by the grace of God. It is the choice to do “what I’m told to do, when I’m told to do it, with a right heart attitude.” The question is, will you obey Him?

Whether or not you obey Him is dependent on whether or not you believe Him. Sometimes God requires a faith which cannot be figured out in advance. There are times when it is not possible to be both logical and faithful. God requires a response which often defies practicalities.

Are you having a hard time obeying God? Being willing to do what He asks, when He asks it, with the right heart attitude? The real question is, do you believe Him? Do you believe that His will really is “good and acceptable, and perfect, complete, & lacking in nothing”?

If you will trust and obey, you will see the glory of God! What happened when Noah obeyed? We saw the glory of God’s SALVATION. What happened when Moses obeyed? We saw the glory of God’s POWER. What happened when Joshua obeyed? We saw the glory of God’s DELIVERANCE. What happened when Paul obeyed? We saw the glory of God’s MINISTRY.

If you would trust and obey, you would see God’s glory displayed in your life. His love, forgiveness, power, provision, wisdom, etc. He’s simply waiting on you to OBEY so He can unleash His glory in your life, your family, and your church!
